Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa with a recorded history dating back to 1692. Award-winning wine can be paired with fabulous food, grown either on the farm or by nearby farmers. Spier is not just a great destination, however. Our passion for quality and sustainability touches everything we do.

Our ethos – which we call the Spier Way – is the connecting thread: at Spier it is all about balance. We constantly strive to find innovative ways for our business to succeed in balance with our environment and society.

The grocers of distinction, Thrupps, first opened a shop on the corner of Eloff and President Streets in 1892. The store occupied a number of premises in Johannesburg itself before a major move to the northern suburbs in 1947 to Rosebank which later became the headquarters in 1966. Together with the enthusiasm of our new South Africa, Thrupps moved the business to the Thrupps Illovo Centre at 204 Oxford Road in Illovo, neatly placed between the busy Rosebank and the Sandton precincts.

Thrupps has always stocked a mixture of the best local produce and imported specialities. Founder Charles Thrupp soon discovered that the imported goods of the time were in great demand and by the early 1900's the cargo ships that sailed from the United Kingdom were laden with crates marked "Thrupps" and filled with assorted delicacies.

Schoon - De Companje
Schoon means beautiful in Dutch. It is a fitting description for what we do here, the way we do it, where we are and our opinion of you, the people we do it for.

De Companje is a collaboration of artisans in the true sense of the word, not merely a label, but rather the artisan that contributes to his community. We do so with the skills that we have acquired over time through study and practice and by using only the finest and purest ingredients. We do so with integrity and uncompromising determination. We do so with love, Het Schoon Familie.

This is a superb little store that stocks high-end produce from all over the globe, with an emphasis on all things Italian. Apart from a rather formidable selection of cheeses and cold meats, panforte, panettone, cookies, jams and jellies abound.

Discover the delicious world of the small artisanal food maker at Jackson’s Real Food Market. Our wide range of specially selected products includes grass-fed beef, free range/pasture reared lamb, free range chicken, eggs, dairy, smoked bacon, freshly cut fillets of fish, the top 20 local cheeses, roasted coffees, wood-fired breads, organically grown fruit and vegetables sourced from local organic farms. In addition to this we also cater for Paleo and Banting diets. Our prices are in most cases lower than major retailers as we buy direct from small farms.
